Get to know Battery Park City
Sitting between West Street and the Hudson River at the southern tip of Manhattan, Battery Park City was created as a model residential community only a short distance from the Financial District. Construction began in 1980, and any residents in the area today would agree it was a success. Residential buildings are separated by landscaped squares and paths, while a riverside promenade runs along the neighborhood’s western edge. Battery Park City has a decidedly different pace and vibe from other parts of Manhattan, something made even more appealing by the sunset views over and cool breezes off of the Hudson. There is an almost festive air to the neighborhood on sunny summer weekends, as it feels like the entire city is rejoicing in a stroll along the promenade. And thanks to continuing retail and restaurant developments nearby, Battery Park City’s popularity only continues to grow.NEARBY NEIGHBORHOODS: Financial District, Tribeca Get to know our homes for sale in Battery Park City You can also check out our homes for rent in Battery Park City
Battery Park City Commerce & Culture
Due to its physical location in the borough, Battery Park City long felt removed from the rest of Manhattan. Limited dining and shopping options certainly didn’t alleviate the sense. But while Battery Park City can’t change where it is, high-end retail and restaurants have at least moved in to fill a void. You can find notable cultural institutions and museums near the southern portion of the neighborhood, where you can also stroll through Wagner Park and into the eponymous Battery Park. Sitting riverside along the Battery Park Esplanade is also always a great plan. However, what you can’t find in Battery Park City can easily be found in adjacent areas. Tribeca draws residents north with its selection of restaurants, many helmed by some of the leading chefs in the city. Meanwhile, the Financial District is full of offerings of both historical and cultural significance.
